At this special edition of Homeschool Art, Eduardo Pedroza will share how the holiday is celebrated in his hometown of Calientes, Mexico, giving participants a firsthand look at the traditions, symbols, and meaning behind this vibrant cultural observance.

This year’s Santa’s Workshop is shaping up to be our most magical one yet! Santa’s Workshop is a special holiday shopping experience where children can experience the joy of gift-giving by choosing beautiful handmade presents for family and friends. Children of all ages are invited to “shop” for gifts for family, friends, and even a special treat for themselves, regardless of their financial circumstances. Upon arrival, each child will receive NMPL Bucks to spend in the Blocher Community Room, and they are welcome to bring along any additional bucks they’ve earned throughout the year. These can be used in the shop to purchase gifts and treats!

Our hardworking Santa’s Elves (better known as NMPL staff and wonderful community volunteers) have spent the year crafting an incredible collection of handmade treasures. Shoppers will find cozy scarves, festive ornaments, puppy chew toys, hand-carved bowls, dolls, aprons, blankets, and so much more. Adults are encouraged to join in the holiday fun as well. Purchases made with real dollars help support the Friends of the Library and the programs and services we offer throughout the year.

To make holiday gift-giving even easier, a free gift-wrapping station will be available in the Adult Department, so every treasure is ready to tuck under the tree. This adults-only program will teach participants how to play some of the new and exciting games from the library's collection. Attendees will get a chance to play the game with others, ask questions, and connect with others in a fun and welcoming environment.

This month, we’re playing Trekking the National Parks. Imagine yourself staring down a giant Grizzly in Katmai National Park.
Take a canoe ride alongside alligators in the swampy waters of the Everglades. Trek the trails that define our nation’s most valuable public resource – the National Parks!

Trekking the National Parks is a spirited family board game that lets players experience the U.S. National Parks in a fun and competitive way.

Up to six players compete in a cross country race to visit the National Parks and collect the most points. Gathering colored trek cards allows players to move across the map and claim valuable park cards. If a player is the first to visit a National Park, they collect that park's colored stone, which awards bonus points at the end of the game. Players must jockey for position and make tough tactical decisions at every turn to emerge victorious!
