Sew Much Fun: Beginner Sewing (Ages 6-9)
Join us for Sew Much Fun: Beginner Sewing for Ages 6–9, a two‑week, hands‑on introduction to sewing designed especially for young makers. Using pre‑cut, pre‑punched felt pieces and plastic needles, kids will learn the basics of hand‑sewing. We’ll be working with beginner‑friendly felt animal kits, which include everything needed to complete a project: colorful felt shapes, embroidery thread, stuffing, and simple step‑by‑step instructions!
Sewing at a young age offers wonderful benefits. It strengthens fine motor skills, hand‑eye coordination, and focus, while also encouraging creativity and problem‑solving. Many children find sewing calming and empowering… there’s something special about watching a project come together stitch by stitch!
Because this is a skill‑building program, participants are required to register and are asked to commit to both weeks of the session. Children ages 6 and 7 must attend with an adult to help support their learning.

This month, we’re making Fried Plaintains. Plantains are the more versatile relative of the banana, showing up in savory and sweet dishes all around the world. Less sugary and containing more fiber, plantains are an excellent choice for little bellies. Fried plantains serve as a satisfying snack or a yummy side to favorite main dishes. Participants will peel and cut their plantains to be fried, enjoy eating them, and feed the scraps to the library worms!

This Month: Latch Hooking
This month, we’re diving into latch hooking, a relaxing, beginner‑friendly fiber art that’s been making a big comeback. If you’ve ever tried cross stitch or crochet, you’ll notice some familiar elements – but latch hooking has its own wonderfully simple rhythm. Instead of stitching each square of a pattern, you use short strands of yarn and a latch hook tool to tie loops onto a canvas. The result is a soft, textured design that can become anything from a small rug to a wall hanging.
Latch hooking is easy to learn and perfect for unwinding. Once you master the basic knot, the rest becomes a soothing, repetitive flow that pairs well with a favorite show or podcast. Many people love it for its mindfulness benefits, and it’s an excellent entry point for anyone wanting to try a creative hobby without complicated techniques.
All attendees will receive step‑by‑step instructions and their own latch‑hooking kit and hook to take home.
