2026 marks the 200th year anniversary of the signing of the Treaty at Paradise Spring that opened this area to settlement. Our Board has been working to make this milestone extra special!
During the summer and early fall of 1826, a site was found and preparations made to invite the Miami, Potawatomi and other nations to negotiate for a Treaty that would allow for a canal to be built through this area. The Treaty with the Miami Nation was actually signed Oct. 23, 1826 so we have chosen the dates of Oct. 23 & 24th for the time to Commemorate this momentous occasion. Dozens of Living History participants will camp near the cabins to help recreate the atmosphere of the early Treaty Grounds. On Friday evening, we are also inviting those of Miami or other native heritage to join us for special ceremony.

America is turning 250 years old and we are so excited to celebrate with a colonial style birthday bash (with a few modern twists)!
The event is open to all ages and will feature colonial inspired crafts like Tricorn Hats and Miniature Liberty Bells and popular games from the late 1700s like Graces, Quoits, and Ninepins. Participants in the Great American Scavenger Hunt will search for important symbols and win hand carved wooden tops.
Attendees will have the opportunity to put items in NMPL’s Time Capsule as part of our partnership with the North Manchester Historical Society and the opening of 1976’s time capsule this month.
The Frances Slocum Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will give a talk about Wabash County’s Revolutionary War veteran. We’ll also serve delicious donuts from Chillz, cupcakes from The Baker’s Daughter, and cookies from Nordmann’s Nook. Attendees are invited to come dressed in period clothes if they wish.

The Tree Trail Trot Race is a beautiful trail run experience on the gently rolling, wooded trails of Salamonie Lake, one of Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources State Parks. This 5k race begins and ends at the Wildlife Management Pond located near the modern Campgroup at the Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area. New for this year, it will be a chip timed event!

A Man Named Cash is the premier tribute to the music and lives of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash. Featuring Eric Hofmanis, the only vocalist chosen by The Johnny Cash Estate to lead a concert experience tour celebrating Cash’s legacy, and Megan Houde as June Carter, the show brings nearly 50 years of Cash’s legendary music to life, performing timeless songs like “I Walk The Line,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Ring of Fire,” “Man in Black,” and “Hurt.”
The season begins with A New World concert on Oct. 4 at Manchester University’s Cordier Auditorium, featuring the “New World Symphony” by Antonín Dvořák, “A Place in the Sun” suite by Franz Waxman, “American Salute” by Morton Gould and based on “When Johnny Comes Marching Home” by Patrick Gilmore, and Aaron Copland’s rousing “Hoedown from Rodeo.”

Calling all craft lovers! Come to Adult Craft Hour, a fun and relaxing opportunity for adults to get creative. Each session will feature a different themed craft, with all supplies provided by the library. Whether you’re an experienced crafter or a beginner looking to learn, this hour is for you!
How It Works:
Join us in person to enjoy crafting in a welcoming environment. Guided instruction available for those who are new to the craft. Already know how to do it? Simply come and enjoy the creative process with fellow crafters.

This Month: Autumn Soaps
This month, we’re diving into soap making using an easy melt‑and‑pour method perfect for beginners. Participants will create TWO handcrafted soap bars, using festive autumn molds, and will get to customize each bar with different fragrances and colors. Our fragrance options include:
🍮 Pumpkin Souffle – Unlike other pumpkin scents that are mostly spice notes, this one is a mix of walnut, pecan, espresso, freshly-cooked pumpkin, caramel, ginger, cinnamon, and allspice.
🟢 Spiced Pistachio – Spiced Pistachio blends gourmand warmth with woody sophistication. Sparkling mandarin and cardamom open this inviting scent, followed by creamy pistachio, eggnog spices, and a hint of gin’s botanicals. Sandalwood, amber, and vanilla create a rich, cashmere-like base.
🥃 Apple Bourbon – This fragrance is inspired by sipping a cocktail on a crisp fall day. It’s a warm mix of green apple, lime, bourbon, sparkling ginger, amber, caramel, and vanilla.
🍊 Orange & Clove – This fragrance opens with a bright, citrus-forward burst of Seville orange, lemon zest, and bergamot before moving into a cool, slightly green middle of eucalyptus, fir needles, and lily. Amberwood, orange wood, and tonka bring a warm, spiced finish that grounds the whole fragrance. It smells like citrus simmering on the stove with warm spices on a cold afternoon.
All supplies will be provided, making this a fun, low‑pressure way to try something new – and you’ll get to take home some beautifully scented soap!
