How You Can Train for Wabash Run The River

By: Isaac Stakeman

Wabash Run The River is one of the most popular adventure events in Wabash County, with hundreds of people coming from all over the country to participate. Anyone and everyone of all fitness levels is welcome and encouraged to participate in Wabash Run The River. The event offers three different race distances to choose from: a Half-Marathon, 10K, and 5K.

If you are worried that you are not ready to attempt any of these race distances, then Wabash County is a great place to train for any event because of all its amazing fitness facilities, public parks, and trails open to anyone.

The county has a wide selection of indoor facilities to use for training, such as the Wabash County YMCA. The YMCA has an amazing indoor track along with multiple treadmills, stair-masters, and ellipticals, plus there are dozens of other strength-training equipment that is beneficial for building all-around muscle.

AnyTime Fitness in Wabash and North Manchester is another great option; they also have multiple treadmills, stair-masters, and ellipticals for the days when exercising outside isn’t preferable.

If you prefer to train outside and love being in nature, Wabash County has options for you, too. The Wabash River Trail is a great place to run, walk, and be outside. The Wabash River Trail is a fully paved path approximately 7.5 miles from the Smith Street Trailhead in Wabash to Downtown Lagro. One of my favorite outdoor training grounds is the Wabash City Park. With 30 acres of wooded and paved grounds, it is riddled with scenic views and Indiana wildlife.

If you prefer to run with others, then I suggest Miles & Smiles.

Miles & Smiles is a group of people who love to be outside and socialize while getting their steps in. Miles & Smiles is perfect for anyone wanting to walk, run, and hike with others who love to do the same. The schedule of when they meet can be found on the Visit Wabash County website or on Facebook

Whether your goal is to run in Wabash Run the River (registration is open now) or you want to hit your first mile, there are so many places in Wabash County that can help you elevate your fitness while you train for your next adventure.
