Ancestral Knowledge: Pupusas

Come learn how to make the national dish of El Salvador from Nourish Indiana!

Pupusas can be found on every street corner in cities like San Salvador. Traditionally eaten by hand, it is a thick, handmade tortilla stuffed with beans and cheese or meat and cheese, served with a vinegar based slaw called curtido and a thin, zippy salsa.

The dish is a labor of love, taking many hours to prepare. But once you taste a pupusa, you will know they are well worth it! We will walk through each step of the process: preparing the fillings, making the salsa and curtido, preparing the masa (corn flour dough), creating the dumpling sized portions, adding the filling and finally cooking them up on the grill. Everyone will get a plate to enjoy and leave with detailed instructions and recipes.
