Dirty Diggers: Fungus Among Us

July 7 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Dirty Diggers is NMPL’s hands‑on gardening program for kids, where young gardeners dig in (literally!) as they prep garden beds, plant veggies, herbs, and flowers, and learn how to care for a growing garden from seed to harvest. Each week brings a new theme and a new chance to explore the natural world right outside the library doors.

This week is all about fungi. Often overlooked and under-appreciated, fungi are an important part of our environment. Many fungi, including most mushrooms, are important decomposers. Not only do they gain energy from dead plant matter for their own nutrition, in the process they also release nutrients back into the soil to benefit all the plants around them. In this week’s session, we’ll learn about these fascinating organisms, play water games, and take care of our gardens!
