Learn: Leaded Stained Glass

Experience the oldest method of stained glass construction as you create a moderate sized hanging panel. Review glass cutting and shaping basics and learn the lead cane construction method to build a beautiful stained glass panel. Several patterns will be provided as well as many attractive glass colors. Finished piece will be between 10×10 and 11×14 depending on the pattern chosen.
Join the leadership from Manchester Alive and the Town of North Manchester for an evening of town project updates, tours of the proposed sites, and Phase II plans for The Coop.

Upper Wabash Invasives Network (UWIN) will host a Weed Wrangle at Mississinewa Lake
from 1 – 2 p.m., on April 26. The public are invited to attend this volunteer workday and should meet at the beach parking lot.
Volunteers will receive hands-on practice while helping to combat and remove invasive plant species along a designated area.
Invasive species ID will also be a part of the workday. Volunteers should dress for the weather, wear long-sleeved shirts, close-toed shoes, and bring work gloves. If you have hand tools, bring them (no chainsaws, please). Consider becoming a member of UWIN! Advance registration is appreciated by calling 260-468-2127.

Jake Wyatt returns to present an introductory workshop on properly identifying local spring fungi.
Participants will meet at Salamonie Lake’s interpretive / nature center April 19 at 1 p.m. for indoor instruction and a visual presentation before heading out on the trails. The workshop is expected to last three hours. No mushrooms will be picked or consumed during the workshop.
“It is important to know the difference between similar mushrooms,” said Teresa Rody. “Many edible species have toxic twins.” She also explained that reactions can vary from person to person even for those mushrooms deemed edible.
-Dress for the weather; much of the time will be spent outside along trails.
– Cost is $5 per person, payable by cash or check made out to Friends of UWIS the day of the workshop.

– This workshop is designed for adults and teens aged 16 and above.

Preschool-age children and their adults are invited to Salamonie Preschool’s “Loving Our Earth” on Apr. 17. Why it’s important to care for our planet and ways you can help.
Children ages 2 – 5 and their adults are welcome to attend the class from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Salamonie Interpretive Center located in Lost Bridge West SRA, Andrews.
Each program is designed to enhance the preschooler’s basic education, including music, crafts, social interaction, and time outdoors, always with a nature-related theme.

Calling all gardeners (new, experienced, and enthusiasts!). If you have extra seeds, bulbs, houseplant starts or garden starts, and you’d like to swap with another gardener OR give them away to a newbie, this is the program for you!
ALL are welcome to come and get some seeds and plants–even if you don’t have anything to swap.

If you have a lot of seeds, and you’d like for us to split them up, please drop them off at the library and our volunteers will work on putting them in bags or envelopes so there will be more to share.
Join us for an informative program all about daffodils, presented by Patricia Walters.
She will share history and unique facts about daffodils, as well as tips on planting, caring for, and understanding their life cycle to help you keep your garden thriving.
She’ll also explain how to identify different daffodil varieties, making it easier to recognize the many unique shapes and colors of these cheerful blooms.
