Cowboy Gathering at Salamonie Lake

Spend an afternoon with other horse enthusiasts at Salamonie Lake’s Cowboy Gathering, Feb. 22, from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. The afternoon gathering will be held at the interpretive/nature center, located in Lost Bridge West SRA.

Sit back and enjoy Mary Larimore’s presentation on traveling to Colorado and Utah. She’ll discuss camp sites used while enroute West, facilities at the horse camps, and riding trail information.

The main dish will be lasagna and garlic bread; table service and coffee will be provided. Participants should bring a dish to share. Soda and bottled water will be available for purchase.

Open to new and seasoned disc golf players of all ages, Eagles Take Flight Disc Golf Tournament is a place to spread your wings.

The tournament, a fundraising event, will be held Feb. 1 at Salamonie Lake’s disc golf course located in Lost Bridge West SRA. Fundraising is to support the upgrading of original baskets on holes one through nine.

Tee times are 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., two rounds of 25 holes at the newly expanded disc golf course.

Registration is available on Disc Golf Scene. Fees range from $10 to $50.

Sponsored by: Friends of Upper Wabash Interpretive Services, Wabash Engraving, Wabash Furniture and Flooring, and QC Communications. “We are pleased to host the second annual XC-tier, PDGA-sanctioned singles tournament Eagles Take Flight,” said Interpretive Manager Teresa Rody. “After expenses last year, more than ninety percent of registration funds went to care for the raptors of Salamonie Lake’s Raptor Center. This year that same high percentage will buy as many new baskets as possible for the original nine holes of the course.”

Salamonie Lake’s Preschool offers “Evergreen,” Jan. 16 Preschool-age children and their adults are invited to Salamonie Preschool’s “Evergreen” on Jan. 16. Learn how special and beneficial evergreen trees can be.

Children ages 2 – 5 and their adults are welcome to attend the class from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Salamonie Interpretive Center located in Lost Bridge West SRA, Andrews. Each program is designed to enhance the preschooler’s basic education, including music, crafts, social interaction, and time outdoors, always with a nature-related theme. A Beginner’s Stained-Glass Workshop, featuring local stained glass artist Katy Gray, will be held at Salamonie Lake’s Interpretive Center. Participants will choose to create a mushroom on Jan. 22, from 5-8 p.m. or Feb. 2, from 1-4 p.m.
