Kids ages 2 to 14 are invited to a Fishing Derby near you! Fishing derbies will be held at Salamonie and Mississinewa lakes, on June 7. Adults must be present with Fishing Derby participants.

Youth age categories are 2 – 5, 6 – 10, and 11 – 14, with first-, second-, and third-prize winners for largest fish in each age category. Each participant must use bait provided by DNR staff.

Each property will host its own derby, with winners announced at each property. Participants for Salamonie Lake will meet at the Wildlife Management Pond located in Lost Bridge West SRA. Mississinewa Lake participants will meet at Bostwick Pond located in Miami SRA.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Rules and regulations will be announced at that time. Youth fishing time will be 9 – 10:30 a.m. with awards at 11 a.m. Participating youth and their adult must be present to win awards.

June 7 is an Indiana Free Fishing Day for all State residents.

Property entrance fees apply, $7 per in-state vehicle; $9 per out-of-state vehicle. Annual entrance passes are available for purchase.
