Gallery G is an integral part of Manchester University and offers its students and the local community a variety of art experiences. Gallery G is located on the second floor of the Jo Young Switzer Center. This beautiful and welcoming space was designed with maximum flexibility in mind. Display panels here are movable, and the space can be redesigned for showcasing different types of exhibits. There are multiple tracks for additional panels on the ceiling and all lighting are movable. The major highlight is the exhibition area, with glass walls, and is always inviting as it allows visitors to see a show, even when the gallery is closed. Works in all art mediums of art are on display by regional artists, and the gallery hosts about three shows a year. The gallery is open to the public from Monday through Friday, on Sundays; the gallery is open when classes are in session.

Built by Mark C. Honeywell in 1952 to be “ever useful” to the regional residents, the Honeywell Center’s history began as a recreational hub for the community. Originally a home to a combination gym and performing arts theatre, the Honeywell Center has grown in size, scope, and support in its existence.
In 1994, a 75,000-square-foot expansion of the original facility included the addition of the Ford Theater, Clark Gallery, and Eugenia’s Restaurant. Offering a full lineup of special events and entertainment options, the facility is optimal for weddings and business conventions.

Thomas Marshall was born in North Manchester and became governor of Indiana and Vice President of the United States. His birth house, on north Market Street next to the library, was completely restored and furnished by the North Manchester Historical Society to its 1854 condition. It is open to the public on the first Saturday of the month from April to December from 1 PM to 4 PM. Free admission.

This memorial is a point of pride for the LaFontaine community. The memorial stone features an eagle, bomber planes, and soldiers in action. It reads: “Dedicated to all the men and women who have honorably and faithfully served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America” Insignias from all service branches and a POW/MIA insignia to honor those still unaccounted for, are featured at the base of the stone.

The Acres Land Trust property, located on the southern bank of the Wabash River, near the town of Lagro, contains an impression of natural exposure of fossilized coral reef dating from the Silurian Periodsome 420 million years ago. The limestone reef deposit rises 65 feet above the river and is being undercut by it, giving the site its “hanging” appearance.

There were four locks near Lagro. The Kerr Lock, the McDonald Lock, the Ditton Lock, and the Hayes Lock. They were named after their locktenders. Locktenders were the people that took care of the locks. Remains of Kerr Lock is the only Lock that can be seen still today.

Built in 1870 by Irish immigrants, this breathtaking church speaks for itself. Designed in a Victorian Gothic style, the original bell and organ are still in use today. The bricks were made in Huntington and Lagro. Features include hand-carved altars and statues, stained glass windows, and oak and walnut curved stairway. They host a monthly mass from April through December each year.

The permanent memorial site includes three 7’ stainless steel obelisks with decorative caps and a dedication plaque. Each pillar was fabricated locally by Schlemmer Brothers Metal Works and has the ability to display a total of 756 names. In addition to the hero nameplates, decorative stars and quotes highlighting patriotic service have been incorporated into the design.
