FREE Concerts at the Honeywell Plaza
June 14 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
A special flag ceremony in honor of Flag Day will precede this week’s Plaza Series concert at the Honeywell Center on Thurs., June 14. The ceremony, conducted by members of Elks Lodge #471 of Wabash, along with American Legion Post 15, will begin at 5 p.m. followed by a performance of the Time Travelers.
Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.
Recognizing the flag has been a custom of the United States since 1916, when President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established the date as June 14. Although Congress followed up in 1949 by enacting a statute that officially recognized Flag Day, it is not considered a federal holiday.
The Honeywell Foundation’s Plaza Music Series, presented by the Honeywell Center, Wabash Plain Dealer and 105.9 The Bash, occurs each Thursday in June from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Corporate sponsorship for the 2018 Plaza Series is provided by Autumn Ridge Rehabilitation Centre, Edward Jones, Ecowater Systems, Owen’s Corning Thermafiber, Inc., Lundquist Appraisals & Real Estate, and Stanley Steemer. For more information contact the Honeywell Center box office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, by calling (260) 563-1102, or by visiting www.honeywellcenter.org.
